Less pain: Scoliosis causes imbalances not only in the spine, but has a rippling effect, causing asymmetry from head to toe, as our bodies learn to compensate. This can cause pain and stiffness not only in the back, but also other areas of the body, possibly the neck, shoulders, hips and knees. We will itendify those patterns and bring your body closer to neutral, alleviating the stress placed on certain areas.
Improved Posture: Awareness is key! Instead of falling further into your scoliotic curves, you will learn how to elongate out of them, creating a better postural appearance.
Get Stronger: After neutral spine is achieved, we will add resistance to help your body maintain its new alignment.
Enjoy Life: When your pain is reduced, life becomes more manageable and you can spend time and energy doing activities you love.
Review: We will go over your X-ray (if you have one), your medical history, and your goals.
Assess your Curves: We will determine your curve type, which will assist in determining wedge placement and exercise choices.
Exercise Plan: Keeping in mind your goals, current abilities, and limitations, we will develop an exercise program.
Movement Strategies for Daily Life: Anyone with asymmetries can get stuck in nonoptimal movement patterns. We will identify those patterns and you will begin to learn how to move more efficiently.
My Journey with Scoliosis
I was diagnosed with scoliosis at the age of eleven, wore a brace for four years, and experienced back pain while pursuing a career in dance. I wish I had known about scoliosis-specific exercise back then, but am thankful to utilize the exercises now to guarantee my back is as strong and pain-free as possible so I can continue to rock climb through my aging years.
I understand fully how it feels to have scoliosis and am passionate about passing on my years of experience to help adults and children live their fullest life with scoliosis!
